City settlement regions - cover settlements where most inhabitants live in regions where population density is greater than 1000 inhabitants per km² and the population figure in a cluster of this density is greater than 5,000. Town settlement regions - cover settlements where most inhabitants live in regions where population density is greater than 200 and lower than 1000 inhabitants per km² and the population figure in a cluster of this density is greater than 5,000. Rural settlement region - covers settlements where population density is lower than 200 inhabitants per km² or regions with higher population density where the population figure is under 5,000 (see also Methodology for establishing city, town and rural settlement region types and clusters).
Statistics on population events (deaths, births, miscarriages and terminations) are also published by the National Institute for Health Development (TAI). Statistics Estonia calculates statistics on population events for permanent residents of Estonia (including events abroad); TAI publishes statistics on events in Estonia. Therefore, the figures may differ somewhat.
The data in the table are presented according to the administrative division in force on January 1 of the reference year. Data for years earlier than 2018 are based on the administrative division in force on 01.01.2018. Data based on the pre-administrative reform boundaries can be found in the archive table RV71: Infant deaths by sex, time of birth, place of residence and age of mother (1989-2016).
