Changes in accounting:
Starting from reference year 2019, the new lease accounting standard IFRS 16 “Leases” of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is applied. It provides for the recognition of most leases in the balance sheet (assets and liabilities). Previously, the lessee recognised finance leases in the balance sheet and operating leases off the balance sheet. According to the new standard, all leases are recognised in the balance sheet.
Users of the Estonian Financial Reporting Standard (EFS) can choose between two accounting principles:
1) apply the principles of IFRS 16 in accounting for leases, where all leases are classified as finance leases and recognised in the balance sheet in a manner similar to IFRS 16; or
2) use the previous approach, where operating leases are not reported in the balance sheet.
