Motor trade enterprises enterprises the main
activity of which is sale, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motor
cycles; retail sale of motor fuel (by the Estonian Classification of Economic
Activities G45).
Retail sales of goods resell of new and second-hand
goods by stores, stalls, sell counters, mail order
sale stores, Internet and public sale to the people for their private
consumption and housekeeping. Retail sale will not include sales of durable
goods (cars, furniture, household appliances, etc.) to the people through
leasing enterprises, if leasing enterprise becomes the owner of goods.
Retail trade enterprises enterprises which main
activity is first and foremost selling of goods (excl. motor vehicles and motorcycles) for
mainly using in households (according to the Estonian Classification of Economic
Activities, activity G 47).
Turnover income
from sale of all products, goods and services received or to be received, which
does not include VAT and excises. Turnover is equal with the pay received or
to be received and is calculated on a accrual basis accounting. Turnover
excludes subsidies.
Volume index
the change in the volume of sales of goods in constant prices compared
to the sale of some previous period. Price indices of goods are used while
calculating the index.
Wholesale enterprises enterprises which main activity
is sale of goods (excl.
motor vehicles and motorcycles) to industrial and trade consumers,
institutions and organisations, including leasing enterprises (according to
the Estonian Classification of Economic Activities, activity G 46).
Wholesale sales of goods
reselling of goods and mediation to industrial and trade consumers,
institutions and organisations, including leasing enterprises. In mediation of
goods, the goods do not belong to mediator, only
commission for services belongs there.
DATA COLLECTION
The
financial data of enterprises have been collected on the basis of the annual
statistical questionnaire EKOMAR. The financial data of enterprises do not
include data of budgetary institutions and organisations, sole proprietors and
farms.
DATA PROCESSING
Statistical
unit
Statistical unit
is an enterprise. An enterprise consists of one or more companies (public limited
company, private limited company, limited partnership, general partnership,
commercial association) or branches of foreign companies or sole proprietors.
Annual statistics cover only branches of foreign companies with 20 or more
persons employed and sole proprietors.
Population
and sampling frame
The survey
population comprises enterprises included in the register of economically
active enterprises called the Statistical Profile. The Statistical Profile
is created on the basis of the Commercial Register and is used as
the sampling frame.
Sample
The
financial data are collected by sample survey, using stratified simple random
sampling. The population was stratified by economic activity, by number of
persons employed and by type of owner. The data collected by sample survey are
expanded to the whole population.
Enterprises
have been divided into groups by economic
activity according to the Estonian Classification of Economic Activities
(EMTAK 2008), which is based on the NACE Rev. 2 (Statistical Classification of
Economic Activities in the European Communities).
By type of
owner, all state and municipal enterprises as well as enterprises of private
ownership with 20 or more persons employed are completely enumerated. The rest
of enterprises belonging to Estonian and foreign persons in private law are
sampled. Since 2014 the retail trade enterprises with one person employed
and since 2015, enterprises in the remaining activity areas with one person
employed should not submit the annual statistical questionnaire. Their data are
estimated by using models on the basis of annual bookkeeping reports data
from the Commercial Register.
CONFIDENTIALITY
The
dissemination of data collected for the purpose of producing official
statistics is guided by the requirements provided for in § 34 and § 35 of the
Official Statistics Act.
