Until 2002 other benefit included a transfer to easier job, which since 2003 is included in sickness benefit.
Since 2020, the benefit for temporary incapacity for work also includes payments for COVID-19 related incapacity for work benefits.
The procedure for payment of the benefit for temporary incapacity for work changed in 2021. According to the revised procedure, the employee co-pay covers the first day of illness or injury and the employer is required to compensate for days 2 to 5 of the sick leave (previously days 4 to 8 of the sick leave). The Estonian Health Insurance Fund pays compensation from the 6th day onwards (previously from the 9th day onwards). This means that three days were added to the period of sick leave compensated by the Health Insurance Fund.
As of April 1, 2022, the reform of the parental benefit system entered into force. Maternity benefit (''ema vanemahüvitis'' in Estonian) is a new type of parental benefit that replaced the former maternity benefit (''sünnitushüvitis'' in Estonian), and instead of maternity allowance, mothers are now paid maternal parental allowance. The Social Insurance Board started paying the benefit instead of the Health Insurance Fund.
Before 2011 the data have been converted into euros on the basis of aggregated data (1 euro = 15.6466 Estonian kroons).
