Naturalisation is the process by which a person acquires Estonian citizenship after birth in accordance with the requirements of the Citizenship Act. Since 2016, a child born in Estonia is granted Estonian citizenship by naturalisation automatically as of the moment of birth, provided that the child’s parents are not recognised as citizens by any state and have lawfully resided in Estonia for at least five years by the moment of the child’s birth.
