Young people are defined as persons aged 7-26.
The data are shown by the county of young people’s place of residence. In 2018-2021, the place of residence recorded in the population register was used. Since 2022, the place of residence is determined using the partnership and location index methodology (read more about the implementation of the partnership and location index). The change in methodology affects the comparability of the data with those of previous years and should therefore be taken into account when comparing time periods.
The data are presented according to the administrative division in force on January 1 of the reference year.
European Union (EU) countries include all EU Member States as of 2025. The United Kingdom was an EU Member State in 2018-2020 but, for comparability purposes, it has not been included in the data for those years.
The table was commissioned by the Education and Youth Board. The youth monitoring project is financed by the European Social Fund.
